I had the privilege of calling the attendee list for the upcoming California Staffing Professional conference next week in Los Angeles.  I have attended several of these conferences in the past (not this one) and have received calls from vendors to let me know what services they were offering and where they would be located on the vendor floor.  I would love to tell you that I always took time to speak with the people that called me, but I know that I didn’t have time (or make the time) to speak to each one.  I did always take note of who called me and  it was generally during one of these conferences that I looked at the new products or services that I wanted to purchase.

During the course of my calls I left several messages, but also had the opportunity to speak with many of the people that will be attending.  Take note that I have never met any of these people.  I don’t think a nicer group of people in staffing or any other industry exists.  Each time I was put through to one of the contacts I was greeted warmly and given several minutes of time.  I must admit that I am saddened that I will not be attending this conference as there are several of the CSP members that I would enjoy meeting in person!  Although I am sure everyone there will enjoy meeting Jason.

I was happy to hear that some areas of California are starting to pick up.  The overall tone was good and people are excited to attend the conference.  One person asked me how many people are signed up so far, when I told him the rough number he was impressed.  He had attended the conference in years past and knew the numbers had been small.

When I worked in staffing I loved going to the smaller conferences.  It was a nice opportunity to really get to know other people in your industry and share some ideas.  I always felt re-energized after attending and looked forward to seeing some of my new friends again the following year.

I wish all of you an educational and enjoyable conference next week.. and hopefully I will get to meet you in person next year!
