Last month, the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal stopped by the office to talk to Avionté CEO John Long about the company’s fast growth and company culture.

A limited number of software developers enter the Twin Cities market each year. For a fast-growing software business like Avionté, the goal is to convince that talent to join the team.
Since its launch in 2005, Eagan-based Avionté has successfully recruited and retained staff with a strategy focused on fun and community involvement that has only helped fuel the firm’s growth.
Avionte’s revenue has increased by at least 17 percent each year, Long said. In the past two years, revenue has jumped from $8.8 million to $13.6 million. (More about Avionte revenue growth.)
To keep with growth, Long is constantly seeking new talent, sometimes using informal events like a job fair at Surly Brewing in Minneapolis last December.
Avionté strives to keep new employees by building an environment worth staying in, Long said.
The company does this through events like 2015’s year-end party at the Pourhouse and Exchange Bar in Minneapolis, $1,000 free food each week in the lunch room, and paid time to volunteer in the community.
In 2012, Long and the company started the Avionté Hope Foundation to encourage employees to make a difference in somebody else’s life.
As part of its foundation, Avionte donates $75,000 each year to local nonprofits. It also gives employees three paid “hope days” each year, where they can work with any of the giving organizations in the Twin Cities. (More about the Avionte Hope Foundation.)
Long recognizes that despite programs like the Avionté Hope Foundation and the money he invests in company perks, he will still lose some talent each year.
“It’s not attrition because they can’t stand it here, but to pursue an opportunity that they always have wanted,” Long said.
Earlier this year, the recruiting and staffing software company Avionté was also featured in Upsize Business Magazine as a Finalist for their Business Builder Awards, which recognizes small business leaders for driving smart, sustainable growth.
