The Avionté Hope Foundation (AHF) has been extremely busy over the last six months with a variety of drives, considerable volunteer hours and enough positive accomplishments to highlight a few.
The AHF is a community of Avionté employees who strive to help people by touching lives and driving change. Launched in 2012, the foundation has given well over $250,000 locally and volunteered over 2,000+ hours. They’ve also partnered with over 50 nonprofit (and growing) organizations across the Twin Cities.
Drives, Drives and More Drives
The AHF hosted an assortment of monthly drives over the last six-months that impacted a wide diversity of local charities. Each month, a different Avionté department hosted its own drive. From the classics like food drives and school supplies drives, to more unique drives like the hygienic kit drive – there’s never a “drive-less” moment at Avionté.
One example was the shoe drive that was hosted by the Marketing department. Over the course of a month, the AHF collected 145 pairs of shoes for the nonprofit, Good in the Hood, which is completely dedicated to changing lives with simple acts of kindness like donating shoes to those in need.
Chili Cook Off
Fun fact: Most historians agree that the earliest written description of chili mentioned its origins in San Antonio Texas during the year 1828. Ever since, it’s been a beloved dish all over the world. It was featured at the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1893 as well as at Avionté during the 2018 chili cook off. While one of these events was MUCH larger, they both centered around chili.
During the 2018 chili cook off at Avionté, 13 amateur chili cooks gathered their secret recipes and went to work making the world’s greatest (open for debate) chili for staff to vote on. With a suggested donation of $5, employees could sample the chilis and then vote on their favorite. All $1,200 in proceeds benefited the Open Door Pantry.
Volunteering Time and Skills
The AHF is no stranger to Feed my Starving Children, especially since FMSC has an office less than two miles from Avionté. Over the last six months, Avionté staff went numerous times, volunteering to pack meals for hungry children in need across the world. If you’re not familiar with FMSC, it’s a nonprofit that provides nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children. Volunteers have the rewarding option to pack these meals while bonding with friends, family or coworkers.
Similar to FMSC, Habitat for Humanity is another charity that the AHF has volunteered for multiple times. In early December, 10 Avionté staff members spent the entire day working on a house, and not just any house! This was the house that was “built by beer” or at least made possible with the donations and help of 11 local breweries. Avionté staff spent the day painting doors, putting base trim in and bonding together.
While cash donations might not seem as fun as volunteering events, they are just as important! Over the holiday season alone, the AHF donated over $10,000 to a variety of charities including:
- The Link – supports youth in north Minneapolis who were being victimized by crime, getting involved in crime and who were struggling with poverty and homelessness.
- Boys and Girls Cub – enables all young people, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
- Elimisha Children’s Project – empowers villages in Kenya through education.
AHF is always open to new ideas and LOVES helping causes close to client’s hearts. Reach out to email@example.com if you have a charity you’d like to nominate.
