Week 38 showed a solid bounce back after the holiday.
Week 38 was the first full week after Labor Day, so a large jump was obviously expected. Based on looking at our 2018 and 2019 Labor Day week statistics, I had hoped for a 4% increase in assignments and 15% jump in hours. I think I’ve said this before – I’m happy to be wrong!
We jumped an incredible 5.4% in assignments and 16.4% in hours.
When comparing against two weeks prior (skipping the short week), that represented an increase of 3.0% and 3.6% in assignments and hours respectively.
Here are the numbers:
All major indices continue to be above pre-COVID levels and our 4-week averages also remain strong.
- The mean pay rate went up to $16.79/hour, up from $16.53 two weeks ago (1.6% increase) and the highest rate since the end of May.
- Overall the billing last week for non-direct hire was the highest weekly total this year by a wide margin (2.8%).
New Talent Results
New Talent is simply defined as new talent records entered that week. It’s a good proxy for new individuals looking for work.
We have seen remarkable consistency in each of the last 4 full weeks (less than 1% variability) and the highest since pre-COVID. I’m hoping this trend indicates an increasing willingness of talent to start working again.
