We’re Halfway Through 2018 and the Avionté Hope Foundation Has Been Busy!

Avionté Hope Foundation (AHF) is an employee-led program that acts as a philanthropic conduit for Avionté employees and clients. The mission of AHF is to positively impact the lives of individuals by helping them achieve long-term improvement through financial and personal support. In addition, the program coordinates events and drives to raise funds and collect items for local charity organizations. Avionté employees have three AHF days every year where they can choose to donate their time to worthy causes.

Holiday Season

The AHF packed the holiday season with a Share the Warmth winter coat drive, an Adopt-A-Family gift-giving program, a Red Cross blood-donation drive and a Chili Cook-Off that raised money for local food shelves.

February

In February, AHF sponsored the Avionté Olympics – a week-long event that featured Avionté employees battling in mini-Jenga, Know Your Flags, Bag Toss, Nerf Biathlon and Who’s Who at Avionté.

Competitors were able to “bribe” judges with cash for extra points in each event. More than $1100 went to Special Olympics Minnesota.

In February, AHF celebrated St. Valentine’s Day with Bundts for Beds, a sweet-tooth satisfying fundraiser that sold mini bundt cakes with all proceeds going to My Very Own Bed, a non-profit that provides new beds and linens to children of families who have recently secured stable housing in the Twin Cities. The event raised more than $1200 for My Very Own Bed.

March

On March 21, 2018, AHF and Avionté customers did their part for World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. In keeping with the WDSD tradition, Avionté employees and clients put on their craziest pair of socks to bring awareness to efforts and business that help and hire people with disabilities.

April

In April, AHF members were excited to attend the annual Link Gala, a fundraising event benefiting youth victimized by crime, poverty and homelessness. Along with attending the event and bidding at the silent auction, Avionté employees donated an actual wheelbarrow full of wine and spirits to the event’s auction. One employee in particular donated a week-long vacation to Mexico. (Don’t tell anyone, but it was Peggy.)

“Thank you all so much for saving the day with your last-minute donation! You all are AMAZING!” – The Link

In April, AHF connected with My Very Own Bed once again to provide new beds and linens to children of families who have recently secured stable housing in the Twin Cities. AHF stuffed every available inch of a truck with new comforters, sheets, pillows and stuffed animals to give kids their very own comfortable place to sleep.

Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is close to Avionté hearts and conveniently close to the Avionté office. Since there’s an FMSC branch 10 minutes from the office, Avionté employees frequently spend a lunch hour packing food for hungry kids. In April, the AHF committee put on hair nets and packed enough food to feed 36 kids for a whole year.

May

In May, AHF delivered a check for $850 to Pillsbury United Communities to support funding for KRSM, a radio station that partners with local classrooms to produce youth-powered radio. Avionté’s contribution will help provide the expanding involvement of over 12 classrooms at eight different schools with technology and audio recording equipment.

Volunteers and students produce shows about mental health, entrepreneurship, community organization, education, relationships, language, history and politics. As an organization, they have led more than 120 free trainings in broadcast media skills this year alone.

As Minnesota FINALLY thawed in the spring, it was time to focus AHF energy on DARTS, a local non-profit engineered to help senior citizens live independently. Avionté employees loaded up their rakes and lawnmowers to help local seniors renew their yards and flower beds.

“I’m 90 and can’t keep the yard like I used to. I hope you all know how special you are to give so much.” – DARTS senior.

May also included a fundraiser to help relieve child poverty. The nationally recognized Red Nose Day came to Avionté and employees were able to buy red noses with proceeds contributing to the $42 million raised by the foundation so far this year.
